If this turns out to be true, and not just a rumor, there is a big casting spoiler for Doctor Who under the cut. Don't click if you don't want to be spoiled!

Discovered here, a rumor is currently circulating that Paterson Joseph *might* be playing the Doctor in series 6.

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. That's the guy who played the Marquis de Carabas in Neverwhere! (He also guested on a couple episodes of Who back in the first season of the new series.) I have adored him ever since watching a crappy second-generation VHS bootleg of Neverwhere back when bootlegs came on VHS tapes! Check him out as the Marquis -- wouldn't this guy make a totally freakin' awesome Doctor?

I'd hate to lose David Tennant, but if they do replace him at the end of season 5, this would be AWESOME. I don't want to get my hopes up, but ... *flails*

May I join you in your SQUEEEEEE if this is true? :D

For some reason I was expecting to click and this and have you announcing that David Hewlett would be the next doctor.

I...don't know who this guy is, but I'm excited that you're excited!

Oh, wow! That would be SO awesome. Which reminds me, I need to get the DVD of Neverwhere at some point.

Oh *wow*. Okay, that voice and that *presence*....

Oh hell yes. And a total change of pace from the earlier Doctors. I am *really* going to be watching for this.

huh, I don't even know who that is. I wasn't aware they were thinking of switching.

Oh, have you seen the Patrick Stewart rumor?

I haven't verified any of the current rumors I've seen floating about involving John Sim (The Master) & Catherine Tate (Donna!), so I remain in the dark on what's real vs. just speculation at this point. ;)

I must admit that I don't know who the Neverwhere guy is. I'm hoping Tennant lasts a little longer - although I'm told the show is "on hiatus" next year.

But about the Patrick Stewart thing. I heard something vaguely about him being in it (actual interview with the actor, I think) - but I don't think he's going to be the Doctor. I think he's going to be a villain - an old series villain making a return (y'know like the Master and Davros). Dunno which one though.

[identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he's a black dude. That'd be interesting.

I'll check out the YouTube stuff when I get home from work (maybe find those season one eps too)

Oh, I like him! (I didn't even know there had been a production of Neverwhere, so that's exciting in itself.) I love Tennant, so I'd be sad to see him go, but this guy looks like he could handle it. If it should pan out that way (and who knows, with that timeline) I wouldn't be disapointed.

[identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Aha! See, that I can see much better than him as the Doctor. I just have a lot of trouble with that. But Patrick Stewart as a guest star would be lovely!

Yeah, I'm with you on that. In some ways, I much prefer an actor that I don't really know from other roles as the Doctor. I'm better off without having any preconceptions, I think.

Y'see, I liked Christopher Eccleston in the role, but I don't think I ever got over the sense that it was Eccleston playing the Doctor - whereas, for me, Tennant currently owns the role and I wonder if that's partially becuase I knew very little about him before I saw him as the Doctor.

I'm pretty sure the show's going to be off the air until 2010.

I've heard something about a couple of "specials" in the meantime, but yeah, as series, nothing until 2010.

Yeah, a splash of colour wouldn't go amiss. But, as you say, it still has to be an actor who is cast for his skill and presence and not just as a publicity stunt.

Hmmm... another of that calibre (IMHO) would be Adrian Lester of Hustle and Primary Colors (amongst other things). But then again, he's an actor that I've known through his other work and (as I said above) I think that works against me a little in fully accepting him as the Doctor.

But anyway, I suppose it's still wait and see if the rumours pan out...

Oh wow, that would be really interesting... As much as I love DT Doctor Who is all about evolving to the new level and this would be a very cool step.

Now I feel all left out because I have no idea who this guy is. Mmm. Still! If you're happy about it, it's gotta be good news! \o/

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not him as the Doctor, but a guest role.

Still rumor, last I heard. :)

[identity profile] blucola.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He's cool, I really like what I saw of the Marquis in the clip, but I can't help but picture him as the character on Satellite Five. Then again, they did the same thing with Freema and I do quite like Martha.

One thing's for certain, the Doctor must be played by someone with a great deal of charisma. This actor does have oodles of that.

Sorry to put an end to your squee but I just found this:

Paterson Joseph's agent denies the rumour to us, claiming that this was the first they'd heard about it. "If Paterson had the part, it would have come through us, so I think that's a no..."

:-(

PS: Well, I didn't know Paterson Joseph and I've never heard of "Neverwhere" (in Germany we get only series like "The Immortal"... Oo) but Joseph seems like an great actor. I LOVE his voice!! Thanks for the Youtube-Link. :-)
