Coding question
This isn't really a question about what the applicable code is, but how you'd recommend using it.
My
gateverse_remix story uses a number of footnotes (it's written in a pseudo-academic style). Some of the footnotes are fairly long, and all of them can be disregarded in order to understand and enjoy the story (they're basically there for value-added joy for those of us who enjoy anthropological BS). For those of you who have written and/or read LJ entries that use footnotes, how did you do it? Have you tried different ways? What do you prefer?
The two ways I can think of to code them are to use separate LJ cut-links for each note, in which case they'll appear as separate cut-links outside the cut-text of the entry (which I don't want); or to use HTML anchor-links, which means I can't hard-code them until I know the exact URL of the final entry.
Can you think of a better way to do it? What would you suggest?
And, as a reader, is there a way of doing footnotes that you find least objectionable? If so, how?
Edit: Thanks to
kyuuketsukirui, my HTML-idiocy is straightened out and I know how I'm doing my footnotes now (yay!), though I'd still be interested to hear if people have any further thoughts on footnotes. I realize that they can be kind of intrusive, and I'd like them to be a fun thing rather than an "OMG, what is she on NOW" kind of thing.
