I haven't posted much about Traders, but we just watched the one where they participate in the group retreat with the orange coveralls and the Lasertag battle ...

OMFG THEY ARE ALL SO ADORABLE IN THEIR DYSFUNCTIONAL PRICKLY WAY. *g*

This show is so sneaky, because it'll make me so ambivalent about some of the characters -- I just want to strangle Jack half the time. And then they'll have an episode like this, which is so adorable that I can hardly stand it (still massively messed up, but adorable).

I'm even liking Jack and Ann again! As a couple and separately. (Also, the scene a few episodes ago where Grant is "cocooning" and Jack coaxes him out of it? CUTEST. SCENE. EVER. That did go a long way towards winning me back over to Jack after the whole thing with the heroin overdose and his reactions.)

So, yeah ... still liking this show. It's just not really one that has a whole lot to squee over; it's more fascinating and well-written than fannishly squee-worthy. But they keep having episodes lately that summon out my inner fan. (The one with Marty and his wife and the trip to Argentina, too. Awww, Marty!)

I've never seen Traders, and probably never will given access to shows, but I'm glad it's a good one, even if it's more thinky rather than squeey.

I love that I watched the first episode of that, went "Oh wow, this is so boring" and somehow ended up mainlining all of it in two weeks. It makes you like it whether you want to or not.

LOL! I had exactly the same reaction, and when I urged a friend to watch, she had the same reaction as well. :)

It's one of the few shows (maybe the only show) where the tecnical stuff flies right over my head... and I love it. With sci-fi you know that ultimately it's all techno-babble, but with traders I never doubted that all the financial things were real.

And the characters... I was most ambivalent towards Adam: at the beginning he's such an unmitigated bastard and then he gests so much depth... but still a bastard ;P

Oh I loved that episode!

Oh you're so bad for me. I'm going to have to hold another Traders marathon. Jack and the ridiculous laugh, and Marty and his bastardly sweet ways. And Grant. Just Grant.

oh man, that show just swallowed me whole. I started off pretty much hating everyone except Grant and little by little they dragged me in so that by the end there was no one I didn't at least care about a little. Jack was such a difficult guy -- selfish, angry, mean and yet at times utterly loveable. Trust Grant to see past all the prickliness and love Jack with all his heart. *snif*

I love, love, loved the comment they made about Grant in this episode, that he *makes* people take care of him. Doesn't change his woobieness, but ...yeah.

This show. I could not believe I was watching a show about STOCK traders, of all things! But the characters were so freaking good.

I distinctly remember thinking, when I talked my partner into watching the first episode with me, "Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into?" I'd already seen some clips from late season 2 on YouTube, so I knew there was better stuff later on, but ... I'm not sure if I would've kept at it if I didn't know there were more interesting things ahead. But then it got its hooks in me.

We did much the same thing, but then it hooked us. *g* It takes a couple of episodes to get over the fact that you're watching a show about stock traders and can't understand half the things they're saying!

It's a very good show -- more of a serious type of show than the ones I normally watch.

I think of it as technobabble anyway. The weird thing is how much I'm actually picking up -- I find that reading the financial news actually makes more sense to me than it used to, because I'm absorbing a lot of things without realizing it.

Adam's amazing. We joke that rather than having the little cartoony shoulder-angel and shoulder-devil, he's just got two little devils that encourage each other. *g* And yet he's not flat at all; he's very complex, and I find myself sympathizing with him even though he's so incredibly ruthless and cutthroat.

It was wonderful! So rare on this show to get an episode that just cuts loose and is fun (even though it did further the plots as well). So utterly hilarious (and interesting!) which personality traits came out under pressure: Adam cheating, Chris turning into a weekend commando, Jack actually being a good leader and taking care of the people under him, Donald losing what little confidence he possessed to begin with ...

And Grant is just about the cutest thing ever. I'm having the weirdest cognitive dissonance switching back and forth -- most of the time it's easy to keep them separate (the beard helps ...) but every once in a while I'll really see "Grant" in Rodney when he's being vulnerable.

Oh, Jack's horrible laugh! It makes me laugh every time he does because it's so absurd ... and I've completely fallen like a ton of bricks for Marty. He's so -- real, in a way most of the others aren't.

I can't believe how the sneaky little bastards have suckered me in! *g* Jack is, as you said, difficult; half the time I want to strangle him, but when it really counts and he's given the option of being a total bastard or a nice guy, he turns out to be a nice guy. (And I thought it was so interesting, in the one where Grant "cocooned", that even though Donald is the one who appears to do most of the day-to-day Grant caretaking -- making sure he eats right, and generally mothering him -- Jack's the one who knew about that; Donald doesn't seem to be aware of the most intimate details of Grant's life, but Jack is.)

Oh, that icon! I remember seeing it on your posts way back when, and had no idea what it was from.

I've fallen so hard for all the sneaky, conniving little bastards ... and Grant. And, yeah, STOCK TRADING. Most of the time I just treat it like technobabble, although I'm a little disturbed to realize that I'm actually picking up things without realizing it, and the financial news makes more sense now!

They really do a fantastic job with the characters -- they're so rich and complex. Without that, it would just be a soap opera ... or a deadly boring show about stock traders! But I can't stop watching.

I love the scene where Jack coaxes Grant out of cocooning. A moment like that goes far to making Jack more sympathetic. I'm surprised, too, by how much I like Marty. This show has odd characters that you end up liking despite their problems and shortcomings.

I know! With the exception of a couple of them (Grant and Donald, basically) they're such a ruthless and morally ambiguous bunch of people. And yet, then they'll do something that makes you love them. So strange.
