SG-1, how are you so awesome? And why did I stop watching this show again? And why did they cancel it again?

It's canon crackfic!

AGAIN!

It's about time they found some incompetent aliens rather than the uber-serious ones who want to kill them all the time. "Security guard ... second class." And the local version of the tinfoil-hat crackpot, who's the only one who actually believes they're from another planet! Priceless!

And Daniel Jackson, the galaxy's least threatening terrorist! *dies* Although ... I guess it would have made a whole lot more sense to send him looking for the DHD with Vala rather than having him guard the hostages. But I was too busy laughing at his conversations with the hostage negotiator to think about it.

The irony of it all is that I think part of why I'm enjoying SG-1 so much these days is precisely *because* I'm not as emotionally invested in it as I am in SGA. I'm not all hung up in SG-1 fandom; I don't overthink the plotlines or fantasize about getting more from the episodes than they deliver. I just enjoy them. I need to get back in touch with the part of myself that used to love SGA in that way.

I really meant to so my own comments on this ep, but got distracted, and then forgot.

It's so darned unfair that after the crap of season 9 (they just released the box set over here, and my re-watching isn't going well - it's just so boring!) and the blips of the beginning of season ten, they cancelled it, and now we're getting shows that are comparable with those in the golden years! It's an Ori thing, I'm sure.

It was SO funny. Daniel was just *awful* at being a hostage taker. The guy just can't do menacing! Having to tell the hostage that she's supposed to be afraid was just great!

I was also over the moon, because the guy who played Cicero (Joshua Malina) used to be in 'The West Wing'(and 'Sports Night') which I adore.

I think I'm going to go watch it again...

I think I love SG-1 because I got into it after I discovered SGA, so I can treat it like the cheerful, humorous stepbrother of my favourite show. Otherwise S6 alone would drive me mad.

"Bad Guys" showed me what can happen when the characters are allowed to be who they are and then placed in a "What if...?" situation. What if Vala were given a chance to break into something? What if Teal'c (still underused to my mind) were able to spot a cultural reference that Daniel could not? (The ep would have been funnier if he were given more "Die Hard"-type lines, as a sort of running joke throughout.) What if Daniel were placed in the position of being the "bad guy"?

Not having Sam around really improved the team dynamic because her ideas tend to bring solutions into the technological realm, rather than keeping them within the context of characters trying to solve problems with their own special talents.

Ben Browder writes some good crack. ;)

I love it when they get to be goofy and out there.

Yep, Browder co-wrote, I believe. He writes great crack -- my icon is from the second Farscape episode he wrote. Claudia Black makes an interesting blonde, haha.

The humor in the Stargate universe (both shows) has always been one of its big attractions for me. It doesn't have to take itself seriously all the time.

Same here. I find that I need a show/movie/book/general media to have sense of humour about it for me to really enjoy it.

I loved a lot of things in this episode - including Jackson trying to be menacing, but what really cracked me up near the end is when Cam says that this is there worst first contact (or something along those lines) and Daniel does 'so-so' gesture with his hand!!! Yep, SG1 have had some very, very bad first contacts...a bit like out SGA guys!

Not many people do if they haven't seen the episode in question. It's Princess Aeryn. ;) The best part was her voice -- Scarlett O'Hara meets Mike Tyson.

If you ever get a chance, I definitely recommend Farscape.

I'll shush now. And maybe watch Bad Guys again. ;)

I enjoyed this episode more than I have an SG1 episode in a while. Maybe it was my lowered expectations, but it was very fun. I won't bore you with details - I got that out of my system on my LJ. :-) Just wanted to say...I agree, it was an awesome episode, up there with some of my recent SGA favorites.

I used to be a huge SG-1 fan, then I sort of lost it when the story lines turned mediocre with too many boring earth and political plots and not enough adventures through the Stargate and my attention turned to SGA instead. However, with the most recent stories that SG-1 is coughing out lately, I find myself enjoying SG-1 more than Atlantis. This latest episode was no exception, the comic element of Die Hard, I found was more interesting, entertaining and enjoyable than SGA's take on Aliens. As soon as the security officer started talking like John McLean, I started LOL and it was a hoot to watch poor Daniel's pathetic attempt at being a scary terrorist! Like you, I found it odd that it wasn't Daniel fixing the gate as I thought that he would be the logical bet, but then, if he had been paired out with Vala then we would have missed out on some fantastic scenes of Daniel trying to play evil terrorist *hee!* and that was just too good to miss. I don't think Cam would have been able to pull it off as well as Daniel could as Cam is more warrior and Daniel more peace maker! I would say that this episode is what I would call the magic of Stargate that first attracted me to the show in the first place. It reminded me of the good ol' times of the earlier Sg-1 episodes that I used to love so much.

I stuck with SG-1 - granted, the s9 recombined team did leave a small bit to be desired, but Vala! Oh my God, who know that Claudia had such a wicked streak in her! :)

I will always love SG-1. They have never gone out and taken themselves too seriously - they pun everybody, including themselves.

But, Bad Guys - totally takes the cake. Way too damn funny!

I really did enjoy the humor of Cam's high school reunion. I'm going to have to watch that one more closely in order to figure out how the hell Vala ended up going w/ Cam to this. But, funny how the female merc chasing after Daniel gets hit by a bus - literally! The writers were definitely having fun by putting in all these crazies puns and such.

Stuff I've missed. Now, just when it gets goods and they've found their feet again, Sci-Fi gets stupid & pulls the plug. Grr! Yes, Sci-Fi is the culprit, but then, they're no longer the Sci-Fi channel - they're the horror and wrestling channel. Yeah, Bonnie Hammer & Mark Stern must die. :-p Please, Universal - bring back people who know and understand wtfrell sci-fi is to run the channel - it would make life much better! :-p
