SG-1 10x14
That episode kicked ass. I haven't loved an SG-1 episode this much in ages. (Well, aside from all my gushing about Moebius just a week or so ago, but it's an old ep so it doesn't count, right?)
JACK! DANIEL! Together again!
Wow, that was a fun ride. It just had everything -- a plot that genuinely kept me guessing all the way (and when was the last time either of the Stargates did that?), laugh-out-loud banter with the characters in all different combinations, incredible tension that -- as I just commented over at
with_apostrophe's journal -- was almost totally character-based, depending upon the relationships and personalities that have been built up for these people over the years, and the amount that we (as viewers) have invested in them, even more than the outside forces pushing them.
I'm wholly unspoiled for SG-1 this season, which meant that the big reveal -- Daniel as a Prior! -- was just OMG WOW ... and I had NO idea where it was going, whether Daniel would be good or evil or die or get stranded in the Ori galaxy ... I just had no clue at all. If I listed everything I liked about the episode, it would be the entire episode ... though my very favorite scenes were probably the first Jack/Daniel interrogation scene, and then the hair-ruffling at the end. But there was just so much awesome! Vala sitting on tied-up-Daniel's lap, kicking her legs; the little look between Woolsey and Jack before he delivers the bad news, acknowledging their shared history; the "oh shit, Daniel's loose!" moment; Daniel kidnapping Jack (and just the utterly matter-of-fact way that he did it, too -- as well as Jack's "I thought they fixed that..." line); Vala and Cam repairing the weapon; Teal'c being "better than a polygraph" (and, if I may be very shallow, Teal'c's arms and that vest ... oh God ... *dies*). Just ... everything.
Best SG-1 of the season, in my humble fannish opinion. And, honestly? I'd put that one right up there with the best of the series, even. I can't think of a single bad thing to say about it.
