Apparently there is a bug in the latest LJ code release that occasionally causes people to be bounced to other people's accounts when they're logged in. Which means that it is possible for a random stranger to gain access to your account at any time and there's not much you can do about it. EEK. (Hopefully it will be fixed soon, not that anyone knows for sure.)

A couple of recent multifandom ficathon masterlists are up: Masterlist for GirlSavesBoyFic and Masterlist for SpookMe (Halloween ficathon).

There is a Fringe Secret Santa this year, if anyone on my flist is interested!

whitecollarhc is running a fever-themed commentficathon if that's your cup of tea!

collarcorner has a nice list of casefic/spooky fic prompts this month. (I really meant to try to write some of them, but I keep getting distracted by other ideas. Like the one I just posted.)

... but yeah, the LJ thing ... *headdesk x infinity* I really really really hope they fix it quickly, because this is a terrible security risk, and there's nothing any of us can do about it! I know a couple people on my flist have been thinking about temporarily deleting their journals and then undeleting once the risk is past.

--will temporary deletion even work? Might the login mixup allow someone else to just undelete them? (though I guess it would stop folks from accidentally posting an entry in the wrong journal...)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been logging everyone out (at least, several people on my flist have said something about that), and I haven't personally experienced any of the other effects, but I figured it would be a good idea to mention it ...

... possibly. I don't know if anyone is really sure how much access you have to another person's LJ beyond just being able to see it; the only people who've publicly mentioned the bug so far (on my flist, anyway) are people who aren't going to go rummaging through a stranger's stuff, so their response is along the lines of "OH SHIT" when it's happened, as opposed to poking around and seeing how much access they actually have. (However, it's a little disturbing that it has actually happened to a couple of people in my LJ friends and extended friends-of-friends circle ... on a site with millions of users, those are odds I don't like.)

Oh wow, it happened to you? See, I think one reason why this is making me deeply nervous is because it's actually happened to a couple of people on my flist, and since my flist is only a teeny tiny fraction of the massive number of LJ users, those are NOT good odds.

Awwww! Those owl pictures are the most adorable thing I have ever seen in my entire life! I want to print them up and look at them whenever I'm feeling down.

While I have friended you, I am not on your flist, yet it happened to me,
so apparently it is more widespread but there are other annoying things that have happened.
I see they FINALLY got their act together for my preview option.....
They kept telling me it was MY fault (reminds me my dealings in past with Verizon and my modem which turned out to be THEIR problem yet they kept pointing a finger at my computer).......

IMO, this last glitch which left a lot of us, including me, without access to LJ for almost four days, left them with some bugs.

Aren't the owl pictures GREAT? It's so utterly cute! My husband and I were looking at those last night and giggling helplessly at the adorable.

We have great horned owls around here, and they are SO catlike, it's amazing. The way they move their heads and the way they hold their bodies and their expressions remind me so much of a cat. Having a friendly owl living around the house would be kinda awesome.

Well, when I say flist I usually mean the extended circle of people I interact with on LJ -- people I've friended, or who have friended me; people whose journals I read. (I haven't been adding new people much at all due to my reading list getting overwhelmingly large, which means there are a lot of people I interact with that aren't really on my flist proper.)

Anyway, I added a new post with updated information; it looks like it was never possible to edit other people's locked posts, just to see them. For whatever that's worth.

I think the cat-likeness is why I've found myself falling head over heels for owls, lately. Back at our old house we had an owl, never saw it but I would always hear it hooing at night and found it relaxing. I miss our owl.

YES that is what I mean by flist also but was not sure of others who have journals on LJ so was obviously not sure of what you meant but looks like we are on same page when using term 'flist'......
I would hope it would never happen that someone other than the owner of a journal can edit an entry.

BTW, my sister thinks this thing called LJ is 'weird'......and I won't even say what she thinks of ff...
