Random organizing tip

I'm on a cleaning/sorting/organizing jag this weekend (CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!) and I discovered something useful: if you're into fiber/paper crafts, those clear plastic document holders that are normally used for sorting A4-sized paper, like these, are absolutely wonderful for organizing things like crochet needles, random scraps of fabric, miscellaneous small scrapbooking supplies and things like that. They close up to keep things from falling out, are see-through so you can tell what's in it without opening it, and are easy to stack or to stuff into a bigger container. I bought several this morning and I've already run out; I have one that's full of needles and crochet hooks (tucked into my yarn box), one has filled up with old Christmas cards and letters, another's been taken over by fabric remnants that I plan to use for making scrap quilts, etc.

... also, for God's sake, self, stop buying Bristol paper. I can't seem to turn around in here without tripping over another 9x12 Bristol pad. Clearly I am not using it at the rate I'm buying it.

I recently bought another pad of transparent paper because I could not find the one I was sure I still had. I mean, I knew I had bought transparent paper not too long ago, and that I could not have used up the block since, so it must be still somewhere in some paper pile. Even though I actually have a shelf to store paper and pads, but of course it was not there...

Awww, man, I know! One of the reasons I wanted to get organized was because I was always buying things twice. One of my accomplishments today was getting some shelves put up (terrible makeshift shelves, but shelves nonetheless) so that each of my different kinds of paper can have its own shelf; before that, all my art paper was in a big pile (well, all of it that hadn't migrated somewhere else and decided to live there...), so I was always buying watercolor paper or tracing paper or colored paper because I forgot that I already had a pad of it somewhere in the pile.

We really ought to have affordable, proper domestic robots by now, doing the cleaning and cooking and stuff for us.
