*smacks LJ with a dead fish*

Okay, seriously, LJ, WHAT. Spoiler-span code seems to have stopped working. I've tried it in two different browsers and in two different journals, and I'm pretty sure it's not me.

On top of that, people have already complained about what has been done to comment display in LJ's "light" style (and apparently for some people in the default style as well; it doesn't do it for me, but it does for some, possibly depending on your prefs) -- the gray separator bars have become much shorter, so that the icons overlap the line below. It's not only fugly, but makes the comments harder to read.

And on top of THAT, I noticed the last couple of days that the "expand" button in threaded comments doesn't reliably work anymore. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it just makes the whole comment thread disappear and the only way to get it back is by reloading the page. (The first time it happened, I thought I'd done something wrong. But it just kept happening.)

Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just me?

Hmm, I haven't noticed any of that happening, no...

It could be because LJ will be doing maintenance soon. Maybe it's just me but things always seem to go screwy when they're about to do maintenance.

Hmm - spoilers are still working on my lj?

(no actual spoilers in the following )

Do you use the native expander or do you use greasemonkey? I used the native one when I had a paid account, then let it lapse to free only to find out expanding was a paid-only feature, so I installed the greasemonkey script and have been using that. It started fucking up a couple days ago (just in time for all the massive yuletide posts I wanted to expand!) and I finally I decided to try uninstalling the script and found that expand is now a native feature for free users as well, so apparently LJ's expand was conflicting with greasemonkey's.

But...if you're already using the native one, then I don't know what to suggest!

I have been seeing the fugly-ass narrow comment bars for a week or more now and it's horrible. It really makes me want to not read anything on LJ, because it's not just ugly, but makes it much more difficult to read.

I haven't noticed anything but then I really don't notice things :D

The mystery of the disappearing comment threads has occurred a few times lately; I haven't noticed any of the other things. I think a few months ago LJ had that same problem with expanding comments, for a while.

Is this what you mean by "spoiler span"? Where the text is greyed over and you have to highlight to read? I can see it in the entry to which I linked (it's n the "warning" line, right after the word "highlight:"), but I don't see it in your entry or your comment above.

Hm. No idea, but the above comments sound smart -- good luck! I will be over here in the corner secretly rooting for the end of spoiler black-outs, since they don't work when you're (er, by which I mean "I'm") using mobile devices to browse -- the spoiler text either shows up like regular text, or it's a black bar you can't highlight to read.

I had heard that, because of spammy malware comments, they deliberately broke whatever makes spoiler-texting work in comments, but not in posts.

Oh hell. Stripping spoiler span tags in comments? What a pain. :( :( :(

As for the comment display, it happens in ?format=light and in the old site schemes, yes. They've said they're looking into it.

I've not noticed anything bizarre with the thread expander, though - it works fine for me.
