OMG, this looks cool!

This looks like a lot of fun: SGA Reverse Mini Bang! Unfortunately the schedule sucks for me -- I'm going to be gone for a lot of June and early July. I'm trying to figure out if I'm confident enough to go ahead and sign up as an author anyway (... I can do 5000 words in a week, right?), or sign up as an artist (the schedule is much better for me), or just wave a little flag from the sidelines.

ETA: Since the question came up in the comments - this one is on Dreamwidth, and if you need an invite code I have some extra ones, or you can check here: http://dw-codesharing.dreamwidth.org/

I sooo want to do this, too. I'm fearful because I still haven't started on my Help-Haiti story and I think I'm going to resist temptation, but we'll see once the deadline gets closer.

5K is much more realistic for me this year... of course I've been itching to try out my honed Photoshop and/or After Effects skills. Ahh, temptations.

I wish it wasn't a month that's bad for me. Perhaps I'll sign up as an artist and see how the mood takes me. The author signups will be open for almost a month, so it's not like I have to make a decision immediately.

Oh, in total randomness, I was thinking about your WWII AU (still one of my favorite long fics in the fandom) when I was talking to my dad yesterday about his uncles' experiences in WWII. Turns out I had a great-uncle who was a pilot in the Pacific theatre; he died flying cargo runs over the Burma Hump. I'd had no idea.

I would be totally thrilled to see a shiny new fic from you! :D But yes, the art is also tempting as well ...

(And it does look like they could use gen people ... *tempts*)

[identity profile] x-varda-x.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, 5k! That might be do-able. So long to sign up too.

I vowed that the genfication would be the last thing I signed up to for a while. But this is soooooo tempting!

It'd be great to see you sign up!

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Won't the genficathon being going on through June? You handling it via a laptop? I might sign up for this new thing, as you said, 5k is short. Because "Long Ago' missed the Big Bang due date I never did get to work with an artist for something.

That's really interesting about your great uncle. Isn't it interesting when you find out what family members did in the war? My uncle was a marine on Wake island, but he won't talk about it.

Beth and I have tossed around the idea of doing a prequel, focusing on the Flying Tigers, but we decided not to, since we couldn't include most of the team. That period of time was fascinating. I think there are many tales that have not been explored. Everyone thinks European theater, less about the Pacific, and heck, there was the entire African campaign.

This is interesting! Thanks for posting this...I have pretty good photoshop skills so I think I might go in as an artist. I'm still only 17k into a 30k genficathon entry and have yet to start on my bigbang. I am gonna say I probably can't take on any more writing projects lol. But photoshopping something could be lots of fun.

In checking it out I am seeing that it's on Dreamwidth. Do they have this exchange cross-posted on LJ somewhere? If not I did a little digging on obtaining on DW account and its either by invite/purchasing. In reading on metafandom it seems that fans were commonly exchanging invites about a year ago when the site went beta, but formal/organized sharing of codes seems to have tapered off since the initial excitement died down. Do you know of anywhere where one can still maybe get a code? Not sure I'm ready to shell out money for a site I haven't tested first...

Invitecodes are plentiful, there's a codesharing community too. You can also use this one:

I have invite codes, also, for anyone who may be lurking here and they want one...

I'm going to be around until about the 15th of June, long enough to handle the Genficathon. Then gone for a week, back for a week, and gone for two weeks. So I *could* do it, I think, but I don't really want to commit to something like that in the middle of everything else.

Everyone thinks European theater, less about the Pacific, and heck, there was the entire African campaign.

Very true! Actually, I learned a lot about the Pacific campaign from your fic (at least that part of it). It wasn't something I had thought about much before; I've read some books set in North Africa during the war, but mostly all you see is Europe.

A prequel would be interesting, but yeah, I'd miss the team ... though if you guys ever wanted to do little sequel snippets showing where everyone got off to and if they ever met up again, I'd be so all over that. (Er, I don't know if this is flattering or not -- it's a compliment, I swear! -- but, in my head, I tend to fantasize sequels and side stories for AUs that I really liked, in the same way that I fantasize about the show itself. You guys' story got, and still gets, a lot of airplay in my head-fantasy-theater. *g*)

I don't know - the timing is awful! But I'm thinking about it.

Thanks for the invite code! I've started setting up my account and will sign up as an artist for the Reverse Big Bang when I get a chance.

I see you've already been supplied, but for anyone else who's reading and might want a code, the codesharing comm is here:

http://dw-codesharing.dreamwidth.org/

There are tonnes of codes available, so generally most people on DW have got some going spare, if you ask.

I'll ETA the codesharing link into the post; thanks.

We've thought about doing a sequel to "Long Ago" but didn't think we'd do it justice. The idea of a series of snippets sounds interesting as we did research that aspect of it. Maybe later in the summer :D

Ooh, snippets! :D :D :D I hope you do; I would love to read them.
