I have _really_ enjoyed the way the author has managed to balance exploration of the characters’ various traumas with critique of trauma-as-televised-entertainment. Avoiding spoilers since Layla isn’t there yet, but there have been numerous points in the series where I was genuinely moved, while also thinking “daaaaamn, that’s clever”
