Yeah, I guess I should say, I appreciate really beautiful polished vidding in the same way as any other art form! But what really matters is whether it speaks to me personally. And that's just as true of vids as it is of books, TV shows, or movies.
I feel like older shows can be a mixed bag with vidding, because the thing that *does* tend to be a little hard to work with is that the camera work is so much more static than we're used to now, with long talking shots or slow shots when nothing much is visually happening or (the growing bane of my existence in B5 vidding, lol) their budget limitations meant they had to imply more than show things onscreen, which is fine when you're watching it but frustrating when you only have the visuals to work with. XD But then as a counterpoint to that, there is, as you say, so much more source to work with, usually including a lot of different characters and situations which lend themselves to vids; modern shows are so tightly focused that there's a limited number of stories you can tell in a vid, whereas I'm feeling like with B5 or MASH or similar shows, I could vid it for years without running out of new visuals or new angles to take on the canon.
