All that Jack said as he dropped his duffel on the floor of their hotel room - their definitely-lacking-two-beds hotel room - was, "Oh, great. Not again."
At least that was progress of a sort.
"If you offer to take the floor out of misguided chivalry this time, I shall sleep in the hall."
"Far be it from me to offend your macho pride, Carter." Jack sat on the side of the bed where he'd left his duffel. "What if I sleep on top of the covers?"
"I shall roll you in them and sleep without."
"For God's sake."
"Jack, we are two adults who can share a bed without it becoming a matter of national importance." Peggy opened her bag. "I am going to the bathroom to change."
"Why bother with the bathroom?" Jack called after her. "Why not do it here? In fact, I'll open the curtains so everyone can get an eyeful."
"Don't make me come out there and stab you with my shoe."
All protest aside, out of deference to both his modesty and her own, she left all her foundation garments on, plus a light kimono that she could probably sleep in, and waited until she could no longer hear rustling out in the main room before she opened the door. She found that Jack was tucked under the covers on his preferred side, just a head of blond hair showing, with his back to her.
"I feel it only fair to inform you," Jack said as she climbed into bed. "I don't know if Sousa is too nice to say anything about this or what, but you snore. Loudly."
"I do not."
"Fine, whatever, but if you wake me up with your nonexistent snoring, I'll hit you with my pillow."
"Try it and I will smother you with mine." Peggy rolled over with her back to him as well. "Good night, Jack."
"Night, Carter." It was mumbled, but fond, and Peggy smiled into her pillow.
