I think Bertie wouldn't want to share a bed with a female character - any female character - out of respect, given the time and place he comes from? So he'd offer her the bed and sleep on the floor. And Sharon is probably equally unwilling to accept a bed that's offered to her out of pure chivalry, so she also sleeps on the floor. No one gets the bed, just different parts of the floor.
