I think the biggest thing is the way I reacted to 5x16, which is the big betrayal episode. I not only haven't had a canon kick me that hard in that way in literally decades, I didn't know I *could* have that strong an emotional reaction to canon developments at this stage of my life, because it was the way I used to react to things as a teen/young 20-something when it was all new and I didn't know all the narrative tricks so well, so every time I encountered a new twist it was this huge O:!!! moment. It felt like that.
I mean, I've been totally blindsided and gut-punched by SHOCKING TWISTS in canons I've been enjoying up to that point, but this wasn't that, this was a case of the show signposting where it was going every step of the way, on all the narrative levels that I now know how to read, and still bringing out that incredibly powerful emotional reaction when it actually happened, even though I thought I not only knew where it was going but had prepared for it. I literally had to go out for a drive/walk to physically calm down, it was that strong! So I'm definitely taking that with me as a writer, just thinking about how they did it and how I can do it.
