Yeah, I try to turn off the recommendations anywhere that I can (e.g. installing a plugin to make Twitter stop showing you random stuff in the sidebar) because I already have plenty of things competing for my attention; I don't need to add more. Let alone having that as my entire user experience! Like you said, who has time for that!
