Hmmm, I'd say about on the level of the later Ben January books (if you've read those); there's generally a scene or two per book that checks in with the kids and has a bit of cute interaction with the kids, to give a general impression of the protagonist's home life, but otherwise the plots deal with other things and he's generally elsewhere.
