Awww, I'm really sorry the ending didn't work for you! If it helps at all, I do feel like Violet's character development is one of the things that got short-circuited by the season being (presumably) cut short; I feel like she has like half a character growth arc (by mid-season I found her pretty sympathetic; she's clearly devoted to John, she just has an incredibly toxic family/cultural background) and I feel like there were meant to be other scenes we didn't see - Violet and John choosing each other, etc - to get to where they are in the last scenes. Though maybe that's just me reading into things! But yeah, regardless of what the writers meant to do, Violet got pretty badly shortchanged in the final few episodes, and the show could definitely have built up her relationship with John a lot more than it did. Anyway, really sorry it didn't work for you!

EDIT: Also, I had that basically happen to me with White Collar (not this exact thing, but an ending that vehemently didn't work for me, including a surprise baby), so I know where you're coming from even if this one didn't hit me that way.
