A couple of interesting studies

Two relatively small-scale studies, one from India and the other from China, suggest that glasses-wearers are significantly less likely to contract Covid - 2-3x less (the India study) or up to 5x less (the China study). Possible reasons include people who wear glasses touching their eyes less, compared to non-glasses wearers, or possibly glasses providing a protective shield against aerosols, like goggles or face shields.

So I just thought that was interesting! These things have been such a gigantic pain to cope with while wearing masks; it's nice to know they might actually be a little bit helpful as well.

Yes! I'm glad to hear that walking around in a fog is protecting me somewhat more. LOL

Oh interesting! Well, if the first reason is the true one them I'm afraid my glasses don't protect me much because I touch my eyes SO often......

Ooo! Thanks for the links, I will pass them on. I learned to limit eye-touching from riding public transit back in uni-days and also having allergies in the spring, so when the pandemic started I actually didn't have much of an adjustment on that one front.

Everything else though... I may never stop washing my groceries again; it feels too ingrained by this point.

That is interesting. Except... I always leave my glasses in the car. I haven't liked wearing glasses since childhood, and don't unless I'm driving, or need to read captions on the TV screen.

OTOH, I'm a speed-shopper -- in and out as fast as possible, not lingering in anyone's presence -- with 2 masks, now.

That is interesting! As a glasses-wearer it makes me feel a little better, too since they like to fog up despite all my efforts. XD

Well, if I have to put up with these anyway, at least it might be helping!

Honestly, even though I have really really bad vision it is still frequently easier to just take off my glasses while walking outside these days.

Yes, I was very surprised by the idea that glasses-wearing might cause you to touch your eyes less.

Oof, that's a good thing to know. And same, it's been a slog wearing a mask with glasses.

Whenever I have had to go out, I wear my prescription sunglasses

[which are much larger and provide much more eye coverage]

over my mask

rather than my indoor glasses

[which are much smaller and provide much less eye coverage]

just in case...

I've heard this before, and it gives me just that extra bit of feeling safer as both my partner and I commute via public transit (me 2x a week this semester and M normally 5 but currently 4 as they burn off use-or-lose vacation days). We both wear glasses, so . . .

I have found that a well-fitting KN95 helps with the glasses-fogging (though doesn't eliminate it, at least while outside in the winter). There is anti-fog spray and I have some, but that adds an extra step to the routine so I often don't remember to do it.

Yes, glasses do offer some extra protection. I have an example of a doctor working in a covid hospital, who worked for two and a half months okay, then decided to stop wear her glasses (normal optical glasses) for some reason - and fell sick within a week.

interesting! here i was worried about my exposure recently and was thinking about getting a face shield but ended up not getting one in time for the thing i was worried about. my mom said that my glasses might help protect me, and i thought that might be wishful thinking, so it's cool to see that they might actually help.
