SSR Confidential 2020 creators are revealed!

I wrote two things this year:

True Blue (Peggy & Jack & Daniel, post-canon, 5300 wds)
Jack's been given a truth drug, and someone's got to look after him.

Jack is drugged and out of it, and trying not to let anything slip about Okinawa to Daniel, with less than perfect success.

Better than Burnt Eggs (Peggy & Jack, 800 wds)
Jack has a few unexpected hidden talents.

In which Jack and Peggy run into each other in the kitchen of Howard's place, and make omelets.

And that's the 2020 exchange finished! I'll be back to run it again in 2021.

Also, although I knew the truth serum story wasn't going that way, there did seem to be a real subtext of poor Jack thinking "Oh no I can't blab this other truth either -- "

I did like it being about Okinawa, though. I wondered what Daniel would think of that, and why Jack might tell him.

I got the impression Jack told him to explain his behavior earlier, and also partly because he didn’t want something like this to be able to happen again or maybe didn’t want it to be a thing between them anymore

Thank you! :) Heh, it is a very "me" kind of story - twist my arm and force me to write Jack being tortured and drugged and insecure about it; oh no what a hardship. XD

LOLOLOL ... I do see how you could get that out of it, for sure. Actually, I was just about bending over backwards in this one trying not to write his interactions with Daniel (and Peggy!) as shippy - this isn't normally a problem I have, but I've just written that pairing SO MUCH, and this fic relied heavily on Daniel and Jack both being over-invested in what the other is thinking about them, as well as Peggy being in Jack's bedroom in the middle of the night.

Oh yes, I could see that! It was just so loaded with emotional intimacy, and also I think you said sometimes h/c fic can almost be like a shipfic or mature fic, without the sex? (I am putting this terribly badly, but maybe you remember.) It can be read as shippy, but I don't think the emotions or the connections are any less if it's not shippy. Which is impressive!

OMG, apparently whenever I try to write Steggy reunion fic I make people cry. When my first reader got to the "you've been asleep for five years" line their comment was simply "YOU MONSTER," and I was like "No, what? It's supposed to be happy! It's five years, not decades!" and she was like "But we KNOW it was decades." Aww.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about, and yeah, I have said that about h/c! It's possible to do an emotional arc that basically replicates the beats of romance, with the same intensity of emotion, without actually being romance. I think that's what draws me to it, actually.
