Unfortunately, even though I'm of an age and from a country where I shouldn't know anyone with polio, I did actually go to school with a girl who had had it. Her parents were Christian missionaries, and took their not-fully-immunised baby with them to rural Thailand, where she contracted polio. She'd be old enough to be experiencing post-polio syndrome now, with very few people in Australia of her age to share that experience.
