EDIT: Mine has been purchased via "Buy It Now" (damn, that was quick!) and is no longer available - but there are a ton of other things to buy, from a custom critique by a published SF author (which is looking awfully tempting to me!) to webcomic cameo appearances. Go and look around - there's lots of good stuff!

I think that you can still sign up to offer your wares even after the auction goes live. At least, I didn't see anything in the rules about a cutoff for new sign-ups.

I know! I've got her friended on my personal LJ, and I even know exactly what I'd want her to critique (an original novella of mine that deals with colonialism issues). SO TEMPTING AARGH. I know I'm going to kick myself if I let this one get away, but I don't know if I'm willing to spring for the "buy it now" option and I suspect it'll go pretty high if I open at the minimum bid. Which, on the one hand, is good (it's a great cause), but on the other hand ... my budget!

I bought it!

I went and googled "manuscript critique" and OH MY GOD. The "pro" rate for line editing is so far beyond what she's asking for that it's completely insane. (We're talking thousands for a full novel-length manuscript.) And this money, after all, goes to a good cause rather than an overpaid editor with an over-inflated ego. Yeah. In the long run, it's worth it not only for the cause but for what I'll probably get out of it, professionally.

But ... I can't believe I just bought an editing session with Elizabeth Bear. Oh God. *hyperventilates*

Darn, there goes my evil plan to start a bidding war that would shake the very foundations of the internet. See what happens when I decide to sleep?

It is a good cause, though, and one I whole heartedly support. I haven't had time to look over the rest of the offerings, will have to do that later and see if any of them catch my eye.

As for the custom critique... go you! That's gonna be awesome! :D

Right now it's hard to think of having time to write anything, with Big Bang hovering over us like a black cloud! But the deadline is right around the corner...
