Yeah, it's that... so much of the flavor of those kinds of experiences are about having your trauma and your experiences erased or openly dismissed and totally unacknowledged, and then feeling that you are all alone in the world with them. You exist in a half-world where you are acknowledged when you are convenient and then erased and swept away when you aren't, and you can never trust someone to affirm that what you went through was real and hard and that you do bear scars from it, not intrinsic and inexplicable ugliness on your soul.
Which is what TPTB did and affirmed: yes, you are unreal, and yes, that is a good and fine way to tell a story, and an end that resonates along those themes is a good ending, and why are you grieving? Real people would understand that this is a good ending and good storytelling!
