This was a good post. And yeah, I think this was really a terrible thing to do to people and proves again, (again, again!) that you can't trust any canon, tbh. At least on the AO3 we have to warn for bullshit like this. But TPTB still are miles and miles away from getting how people read their stories, and in this case I think the cluelessness was cruel and irresponsible.
