"Have you ever read Diana Wynne Jones? She's one of the few fantasy writers that I (almost) consistently love -- I'm always thrilled when she comes out with a new book."
I love her stuff! I started with Dark Lord of Derkholm and was immediately smitten. I have yet to read anything of hers that has dissappointed.
I think that's why I read young adult fantasies more than adult fantasies. More diverse, imaginitive worlds. It's also why I've gotten into Mangas. I love writing fantasy because I love world-building and creature-creating, which means needing diverse inspiration to come up with diverse worlds that aren't a slightly tweaked version of previous worlds created (which had become a bane for me for a time).
I once read a fantasy book so disgustingly cliche, the first to chapters actually made me ill. It was like every fantasy I ever read crammed into one book, and there wasn't a single character I liked.
