As others have said, yes, we get notifications for posted fic, backdated or not.

But speaking for myself -- spam away! I subscribe to people because I want to know when a story goes up. It only takes a second to check and delete the email if it's a fandom I don't follow.

I save fanfic on my HD. When I was new to the Internet, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find my way back to whatever site it was on when I wanted to reread. Now I know that some authors decide to pull their fic for various reasons; if it's saved on my HD, I don't lose it. (Except I seldom remember the title or author of the story I want to read -- but I know it's there, somewhere.)

I'm always happy to see older fics appear on AO3. I enjoy revisiting old friends that have slipped into the background of my memory, and seeing the announcement is a great reminder of the "golden oldies". (Seriously, you and Lamardeuse are two of my favorite SGA authors; I always finish your stories with a smile on my face.) I spent the morning reading "Cold Comfort" and "Candle in the Dark" -- aware that I'd read them before, but details in my memory were very vague; it was a treat to delve into them again. (We will resolutely ignore the housework I let slide. <g>)

So, no need to apologize for moving older fic to AO3. Instead, thank you for the reminder of good stories.
