Heh, yeah - I hate to say it, but I DO think that for me, the semi-subconscious "well, it's not HERE" thing helps a lot with dealing with the ubiquitous police brutality but still accepting the police characters as sympathetic good guys. I mean, maybe it shouldn't, but on some level I think it actually does -- at the very least there's a level of emotional distancing, as opposed to having the violence happen in contexts, and political contexts, that are more familiar.
Anyway, if you get a chance to watch it, I hope you enjoy it! I think the immersive nature of marathoning whole seasons is helping me a lot with my French, too - I understand more than I did before!
