Word on JJ Abrams shows. I came into writing fanfic with Alias, but what you called the Gordian plot-knot is exactly what happened to that show starting late in the third season (coincidentally about the time JJ turned to developing Lost) and then the writers revealed that they had no idea what was going on in the end, they were just riffing from episode to episode. There was no ultimate plot/ending/truth out there.

And I never trusted another JJ Abrams show enough to become 'involved' with it. I swear even the Stargate writers had a better idea of where they were going. (The ultimate destination of the SGC and Earth triumph over all and its the best place in the universe is stupid but at least its consistent through all of the shows and right from the beginning to the end episodes.)

All the stuff you say about parent/child relationships in JJ Abrams shows were right there from the beginning in Alias too. The absolute best things in it were the complicated ties of love and betrayal between Jack Bristow, Irina Derevko and their daughter Sydney. The foregrounded romance was gag worthy.

And yet, despite my unofficial oath to not watch anything of JJ Abrams, I found myself watching the last four episodes of Fringe. I blame the fact I can't get my TV to receive CBS any longer.

How in hell are they going to make a Peterless pair of universes make any sense at this point? Though, it did at least explain to my why altLivia wasn't flipping out over the death of her son. No Peter, no Peter Jr.
