31 fanworks in SSR Confidential 2017 are live! Authors/creators will be revealed on the 15th. There's also a "guess the creator" post this year.

(Now that we're watching Parks & Recreation, I have realized that I am the Leslie Knope of running fic exchanges. At least this year I managed not to try to write a treat for every participant though not for lack of wanting to.)

Would anyone like to leave some Agent Carter prompts for the SSR Confidential writers/artists/vidders? I just put up a prompt/inspiration post.

Prompt post on DreamwidthPrompt post on LJ

Anon commenting is turned on, but not required, though if you're participating in the exchange, it would be appreciated if you tried to avoid giving away TOO many clues about what you're working on.

You don’t have to be signed up for the exchange to leave prompts, and you can also use these for general inspiration – you don’t have to use them exclusively for SSR Confidential fanworks.

(And yes, I really should have done something like this a lot earlier if I was going to, but better late than never, right??)

First of all, thank you so much for creating something for me! :D I tend to write long letters with a lot of options, but that's just to give you ideas. I know it's probably nervewracking to discover that you're making something for the mod who ALSO has a very long request letter, but please do not feel bound to follow my suggestions. I have very few DNWs, so I'm sure I will love whatever you make me.

For vids, see my signup details. You can also look at my vids tag to see what my typical aesthetic and musical choices are like, but don't feel bound by that.

General fic likes: friendship, casefic, action, fluff, cuddling, banter, awkward developing relationships, established relationships, hurt/comfort, quiet domestic moments (e.g. playing board games, going out for drinks), getting trapped somewhere together (either the super angsty kind where a building has collapsed on them or they're stranded in a cabin, or the funny/cracky kind where they're on surveillance duty together or forced to spend the night in jail because of a mission gone wrong), AUs

General fic dislikes: character death, character bashing, tragic/hopeless endings

Some h/c tropes I like in case you find it inspiring )

My signup details in case it's useful to have them here too )

Basically these are just asking for input on this year's schedule (tagset nominations in early March, signups in late March, fics due in early June - similar to last year) and a couple of potential rule changes.

On a completely other topic, I was in the school supplies aisle last night looking for a 2-pocket folder (this kind of thing) to replace the falling-apart one I've been using since middle school and don't really like anyway. Don't they have pretty ones anymore?? Do you guys remember all the different fashion folders we used to be able to get, with unicorns or cats or butterflies or whatever? Are those not a thing anymore? It was all solid-colored folders with a tiny handful of sports-themed ones. I wanted unicorns, dammit. :P They didn't even have very many colors. At least I was able to find a purple one.

I was going to leave tomorrow but it's now pushed back to Tuesday, which is AWESOME because instead of spending today hastily packing and doing all the errands I haven't done yet, I can do my errands in a leisurely way, chill, hang out online, and write fanfic.

I was also remembering that I'd meant to post about my SSR Confidential matching process, after the reveals were out so I didn't risk giving away anyone's assignment. It's been a REALLY long time since I ran an exchange (actually I can't remember off the top of my head if I've modded an exchange like this before -- ficathons and prompt communities, yes; straight-across exchanges, possibly not). So I was pretty much operating from scratch on how to do this.

I tried running AO3's automatic matching algorithm, but most of the results were terrible -- I mean, they technically matched, but most of them matched only on one character, and all the ones I spot-checked were not going to work well (people being matched to writers who hated their favorite character/OTP, and that kind of thing). So I decided to hand-match all of them. I'm not entirely sure if anyone else does it the way I did it, but it worked really well for me.

I downloaded all the requests, put them in a text file, and printed them out. I did it twice, on different-colored paper, so I had each person's full sign-up on two different colors of paper (for requests and offers). Then I cut them apart and ended up with a bunch of slips of paper that looked like this:

SDC16425

(These are already partially paired off, at left. I just paper-clipped the assignments together.)

As I went through the requests, I realized that broadly, they all fell into one of three general categories, which I thought of as the Jack group, the Angie group, and the Howard/Jarvis/female-character group. That is, nearly everyone who wanted Jack ALSO wanted Peggy, Daniel, and ships involving those characters, so they were all pretty good matches with each other. Most of the people requesting Dottie, Whitney, the Jarvises and Howard wanted at least three of those four. The Angie people basically just wanted Angie or Angie/Peggy. If I broke up the players into those three divisions, they were almost all compatible within each subgroup.

So I divided the requests and offers into those three groups, and first of all went through doing the best possible matches. There were a handful of people in each group who were SUPER compatible -- they wanted almost all the same things, or they had the same rarepairs, or someone was offering to write exactly what another person wanted to receive. So I did those first, to make sure as many people as possible would get the best of all possible matches.

Then I separated out the people who only had non-fic requests or non-fic offers, because doing the remaining people was going to be like a jigsaw puzzle anyway, and I didn't want to have different media types to further confuse things. So I matched those ones next.

Then I went through and matched the remaining people. Some of them got good matches anyway; others ended up matching on only one or two characters. In the end, I had a number of different stacks that were labeled like this:

SDC16676

I did actually end up having to switch some people around when I went and entered all of the new assignments into the AO3 panel, because in one case (ironically involving me) I had accidentally done a direct assignments swap (I was writing for them, and they were also writing for me) and I didn't want that. I think I also had someone who was assigned to write for someone whose request TECHNICALLY didn't match -- from the way their requests/offers were written, I think it would have worked fine (it was basically a case of, they requested X and Y, and offered X/Y, and I assigned them to someone who requested Y), but AO3 wouldn't take the match. So I did some shuffling. Since I was writing in the exchange myself, I was also able to use myself as a wildcard; I was willing to write basically anything, and also to accept a less-than-optimal writer match. In the end I did end up giving my writer a difficult assignment, since we only matched on one character and none of our ships, but they did a great job with it. :D

Basically it worked great and I'll probably be doing the same thing next year. I also had several people mention how much they loved their assignments, which, yay! \o/ I tried very hard to make sure everyone had an assignment they would enjoy.

The SSR Confidential creators are now revealed! I wrote ... *cough* .... eight stories, some of which were pretty obvious, others much less so. I swear I would have treated everyone if I'd been able to. I'll be crossposting them here over the next few days, and get the comments properly answered as well!

Definitely doing this again next year (if I haven't completely wandered off to other fandoms in the meantime, but I don't really see that happening), and I also still intend to run an Agent Carter big bang, which was another possibility that was tossed around at the same time the SSR Confidential exchange was discussed. It may take me awhile to get that off the ground, though, because I have a busy couple of months coming up.

Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped out; you were great!

We've got two assignments that need pinch hitters; you can go to the DW comm or the LJ comm to see the details and potentially claim one. Both are looking for fic.

SSR Confidential signups close in about 24 hours, in case you are on the fence about signing up! You can look at all the requests so far here. We've got 21 people signed up so far, and I'm really happy with the variety of different relationships and characters represented - it looks like a very diverse field of signups, while still having enough overlap that I don't think matching will be difficult.

Here is a countdown timer to the close of signups.

Thank you so much for creating a fanwork for me! I know it's probably intimidating to get the mod as your assignment, but I really am very easy to please. I know I will love whatever you make me!

General likes: casefic, action, h/c, friendship, cuddling, curtainfic, domesticity, quiet downtime between cases, futurefic, AUs, missing scenes. I love alllll the hurt/comfort tropes, but I'm also totally fine with none at all if it's not your thing.

General dislikes: character bashing, crossovers, PWP (as noted in details below, I don't mind explicit content in fic, but it's not really something I go for). If you are going to write fic set after the season two finale, please don't kill Jack! (Unless it's temporary; I'm also thoroughly fond of "presumed dead" as a trope.)

SSR Confidential signups are open! Writers, artists, and vidders can all play.

Announcement post with links to rules etc.

Since I'm new to running exchanges on AO3, I am going to hold off announcing it at fandom_calendar and other places until Friday noonish, in the hopes that any issues with the signup form (should any occur) will have come up and been fixed by then.
sholio: Peggy and Angie from Agent Carter hugging (Avengers-Peggy Angie hug)
Nominations are open at the SSR Confidential tag set. Instructions are here at the comm - the only thing that's different from normal nominating is that relationships and characters BOTH go in the character field (relationships are prefaced with "Relationship: "), which is a dodge to allow matching on both character and relationship without requiring anyone to choose both. You do not have to nominate in order to play, if the characters and relationships you already want are in the tag set.

The tag set: http://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/1153

Ask me if you have any questions!

I think we are a go for character and relationship nominations to start tomorrow! I have updated all the SSR Confidential communities with up-to-date dates, info, and a link to the rules at AO3.

[community profile] ssrconfidential | [livejournal.com profile] ssrconfidential | [tumblr.com profile] ssrconfidential

I have not really announced this anywhere yet (in the wider fannish community, I mean), but now that I've got everything set up, I'll post a link at fandom_calendar when nominations are open, and start talking it up on Tumblr.

The new improved schedule:
• March 16-22: Nominations.
• March 25-April 2: Signups.
• April 4 or 5: Assignments go out.
• May 1: No-fault dropout deadline.
• June 1: Fanworks due.
• June 8: Archive goes live.
• June 15: Reveals.

Okay, I confess: certain aspects of the AO3 form for setting up a fic exchange are baffling me utterly.

There are two specific things I am having trouble figuring out, and would really appreciate advice from anyone who's run or helped run an exchange on AO3.

- Several of the exchanges I've participated in lately have used an optional tag field to allow people to check "fic" or "art". As far as I can tell, this is the only way to do matching in an exchange that includes both. But I can't figure out how to add these fields.

- It's possible to have one request that includes multiple pairings, or have each pairing as its own request. Anyone have advice on the best way to set this up for matching purposes? Especially since this is a single-fandom exchange and therefore theoretically less complicated, I could easily just have one request per signup, allowing people to enter however many pairings they want (up to the maximum). OR I could have each pairing as its own request and allow 6 or 8 or whatever I decide to make the maximum. Pros? Cons? "One request, multiple pairings" seems like the most straightforward, but "multiple requests, one pairing each" allows people to easily enter their optional details for each pairing, as those are probably going to be different.

For the last one, I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who's participated in several exchanges as far as which version you found easiest to use.

I also haven't decided what my minimum/maximums are going to be. Matching is going to be done on the basis of pairing/relationship. Right now I'm thinking:

Requests: minimum 1, maximum 8
Offers: minimum 2, maximum 8

Allowing people to offer as little as one pairing might be a TERRIBLE idea, but I also don't think there are going to be that many people who are that OTP-ish about really rare pairings (that is, I would expect that people who really only want ONE are going to come from the bigger pairings, though I might be tragically mistaken). Anyway, I could also bump it up to two.

Opinions very welcome!

Thank you for the input, everyone! It looks like SSR Confidential is winning the poll by a landslide (though Fic Bop and Spring Swing are also popular), and that's also my favorite at the moment, so that's the one I'm going with. And all the votes were for allowing both fic and art, so it's now "fanworks exchange" instead of "fic exchange".

Consequently, we now have:

[community profile] ssrconfidential | [livejournal.com profile] ssrconfidential | [tumblr.com profile] ssrconfidential

A tentative set of rules and schedule has been posted at each of these places.

I'll also be posting updates at my journal, but these are the main places to follow for news. I'm still figuring out the schedule, and haven't started doing the AO3 part yet. Input is welcome (there, or here) if you have suggestions or comments.

Okay, so, here are the top options for an Agent Carter fic exchange, gleaned from my favorites of people's suggestions (edited according to my preferences, because modly privilege) and from my own ideas. As well as voting in the poll (if you want!) please let me know in comments if any of these strike you as a TERRIBLE idea for some reason.

Yes, Fic *Bop* and Fic *Hop* are intentionally separate options. At the moment, I am leaning heavily towards either Fic Bop or SSR Confidential, but I want to know which ones you guys like. And if you think of any more, leave them in comments!
